CAVITE TOWN COMPREHEND BLACK BUGS ATTACK IN FARMLAND

GENERAL Trias, Cavite. – The local government here led by Mayor Luis ‘Jon-Jon’ Ferrer IV and Municipal Agriculturist Nerissa Marquez alarmed over the invasion of the rice black bugs in two (2) barangays of the municipality to fight the pests in the area.

Marquez together with the local farmers close monitor the Barangay Buenavista II and San Francisco, to immediate contained the two black bug infested farmland barangays.

Farm owners apply already the Metharizium,  a fungus used to biologically control the RBB as advised by Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC), a rice crop protection body of UP, Los Banos, Laguna.
Most of the local farmers in the area are ready on this kind of trouble in farms. The Municipal Agriculture Office also conducted seminar on preventive measures on rice black bugs. The phenomenal bugs, a size of mongo beds, have infested planted crops in the fields. The pest sucks the bases of the crop to weaken and die.

Marquez also submitted reports to Provincial Agriculture Office of Engineer Mario Silan regarding the menace, so that the town can get financial assistance to the provincial governor as other town like Naic and Maragondon declared under calamity. (Dennis Caparas-Abrina)
